Barons of Balquhain
based on The Family of Leslie
Sir George Leslie was the fifth son of Andrew de Leslie by his wife Mary Abernethy. He received the lands of Balquhain from his father and a royal grant of it for his service to Robert Bruce in his war against Edward II. In 1340 he received charters for the lands of Balquhain, Braco and Syde.

Served in the civil wars from 1639-1647 as Captain of the Guards under Alexander Leslie, Earl of Leven. Then went to Germany and then to Russia where he entered the Muscovite service as Col. of cavalry. Killed at the storing of Igolwitz  30 Aug. 1655 when the Russians invaded Poland.

            Being reduced in funds, he renounced his right to title and lands of balquhain.
