Leslies of Among the hundreds of pages scanned and archived at the Wardhill Estate, we found a book of special interest to Leslies of Australia and New Zealand (Antipodes). The book “Leslies In the Antipodes” was written in 1998 by Jillian A. Burcher. The book was self-published and includes information about the Leslies of Warthill, Patrick, Walter, and George who went to Australia and there related families and friends.
Here is an excerpt from the book:
“Probably because he did not marry until he was quite a bit older, Jane Leslie’s brother, Walter Davidson, took a great interest in his sister’s children – in particular William, Patrick, Walter and George. He was very close to his sister and brother-in-law William. When the nephews were quite young, about 1825, he proposed that he could give the boys a great deal of assistance. William went into commerce through his uncle’s interests in the Far East, and Walter offered Patrick the eventual management of his property in New South Wales; young Walter and George were to follow later to take up a property that Patrick was to establish in advance of their arrival.
My son Patrick left Aberdeen for New South Wales on Saturday, 25th October,
1834 – arrived Queen of Scotland steamer in London on Tuesday the 28th …” page 3.
