Now we find ourselves near the end of this wonderful account of lives and history of the Leslies of the Garioch. In the early 1700’s, while Presbyterian Kirks became the center of religious life there continued to be Catholic or Romanist families in the area. In the Garioch. Consequently, only two Leslie families were Romanists – The Leslies of Fetternear, and the Leslies of Pitcaple. The religious situation in Scotland may have contributed toward the Leslies of the Garioch finding haven in Europe.

The book concludes with an Appendix of pedigree genealogies of the prominent families and branches, with some listings including short notes about the person. The Appendix includes:

  • The Leslies of Bartolf
  • Leslies of Balquhain
  • Leslies of Wardes
  • Leslies of Warthill, and the
  • Leslies of Little Folla

This series of short blog postings was intended to offer a preview of the contents of this extraordinary book with focus on the Leslies of the Garioch.

At the end of the 18th Century, Leslies have emigrated to Australia, Canada, the Carribbean, Ireland, the United States, and several European countries. This emigration is the Leslie Diaspora.

Anyone with interest in Leslies and its septs, is encouraged to refer to the three-volume set, the Historical Records of the Family of Leslie from 1067 to 1868-9 by Colonel Leslie K. H. which is available online as three pdf files, which are searchable in a pdf viewer.
